Hello All,We hope you have had a good Thanksgiving and we wanted to give you a quick update on Ayden. Today was a day of rest for him with no tests planned because most of the doctors were off for the holiday so there was minimal staff on hand. What they did do today was lower the amount of medicine he was receiving for sedation and pain management. He seemed to tolerate that quite well and his vitals were looking quite stable throughout the day. He was running a slight fever last night (~100-101 ºF) but they have started him on antibiotics and his body temperature has hovered around 99.5 ºF all of today without the aid of Tylenol. They have also started his feeding tube so he is getting some quality nutrients into his body in the form of baby formula. He is tolerating it quite well and they will continue to increase the feeding rate every four hours. They hope to achieve a rate of 40mL/hour for his feeding tube. They also switched up the medicine that is helping maintain his blood pressure and heart rate to help increase blood flow to all parts of his body. As a result of this medicine change his profusion (as indicated by urine production) has increased and the blood flow to his extremities has also increased. What gave us a glimmer of hope today is the fact that it looks like Ayden is trying to take breaths on his own. Granted, they are very shallow ones but nonetheless the ventilator is picking up signs of breathing. We don't know what this means but right now any small indication of improvement is welcomed. Tomorrow is one of the big days for us and we've tried to prepare ourselves as much as possible when Ayden goes in for his MRI. Ayden's pulmonary specialist has been coming down to see us on a daily basis even though he is not part of the PICU team to see how he is doing and offer support. He stressed the fact that the MRI is only a picture of Ayden's brain and is not the final indicator of how our son will act when he wakes up. We know that everything is in God's hands and that He has the ability to heal Ayden. We are extremely grateful for His guidance and protection over our son thus far and continue to have faith that God can heal him. We want to express our continued appreciation for all of the prayers and words of encouragement that we have received for him and our family throughout this experience. We will continue to give you guys updates as they come. Love,Kenji, Catherine and Ayden
